Matthew Canavan is Senator for Queensland. Matt is based in Rockhampton in Central Queensland and is proud to represent rural and regional Queensland in Canberra. He was the first Senator to be based in Rockhampton in more than 20 years. He has served as the Minister for Northern Australia since February 2016, and was elevated to Cabinet later that year as the Minister for Resources – the first Central Queensland based Cabinet Minister since the 1970’s. Matt is a large supporter of fossil fuels, namely the coal industry and is a strong opposer of renewable energy.
